THE CODE

More deep than the greatest oceans, more vast than the deep starry void below, more bright than the greatest suns in the sky, and more open than the plain emptiness of space; the Code is a difficult thing to describe, because it is everything and it is also nothing.

The Code, quite plainly, built all of us, wrote who we are into existence, but it also has been dead for a very long time and no longer touches our world. For thousands of years Esteemed Scholars have debated back and forth the nature of the Code. Most will argue that we have come to a consensus, and all that we need to know about the code is understood. Only the awakened few understand that we have only interpreted a fraction of what the Code really is.

Some E.S. argue that the Code is awake and alive, and exists within us all at all times. It is actively changing our fate when we pray to it, and listens to us when we have things to say. Others argue that the Code has been dead for longer than life itself has been sentient; they argue that the Code created the necessary building blocks for an expanded Universe, and entrusted its construction to its first children, the Unknown.

- The Wizard

[---]

The Code is what makes up all that exists within the world of Untitled. Not just the world the Players inhabit, but also the know Universe as well. The Universe is often used as an alternate name for the Code, after all.

Everything is made up of code, the ground the Players stand on, the great monuments they build, and the Players themselves. The Code is both what creates and makes up the world, and also a set of instructions used by the greater Unknown, the Operators, to direct how the world should be run.

The reason Operators hold as much control as they do, is because they are the mouthpiece of the Universe. They are able to speak for the Code and its wishes, and direct the world how they see fit based on these wishes. Along with this, they were gifted powerful abilites beyond the scope and scale of anything a Player might be able to access.

THE UNKNOWN

"Unknown are best described in my opinion as something close to “Gods” or “Deities”. They are extremely powerful compared to the common Player, with the high ranking members having the ability to read the Code with their own eyes. They can perform complex Arcane computations with their own hands, and are able to build inside the void itself.

All Unknown serve the Code, a force that itself has long been debated by scholars. All that the highest ranking Operators have ever revealed is that the Code passes on its will down to the Unknown below it, and that they enact on its wishes."

[---]

The Unknown are catagorized based on their ability and ranking within the caste system. Primarily there are those who are incharge of keeping an eye on the code and its stability, and those who are in charge of creating new worlds for players to inhabit.

Linters

Linters are small non-sentient mechanical creatures used by Observers and other lower-tier Unknown to read and manipulate Code. They are often treated more like pets or fancy tools than anything else, and are often well loved by their Unknown owner.

Observers

the watchers; the eyes of the universe

The lowest tier, and most common form of Unknown, they can access certain worlds, and are able to watch as they please.

Using mechanical devices known as “Linters”, Observers watch the known universe, and maintain it. They are in charge of watching over worlds, making sure the code does not fail or have flaws, however they can only minorly alter code. They can fix small problems, but major issues must be reported to programmers.

Programmers

the fixers; the fingers of the universe

A relatively common type of unknown, but not as common as Observers. They rank higher over Observers.

Programmers work closely with observers, fixing code mistakes they find and squashing bugs before they can become a problem. Programmers often also use Linters for their work. They are more mechanically minded, working on the things hidden behind the veil of a normal Player's eyes.

Terraformers

the builders; the hands of the universe

Terraformers build the worlds we stand within. Every block, every line of code, to ensure it looks the best it possibly can. They have the job to create new worlds using the vanilla base created by designers, and are the most restricted.

In terms of danger, Terraformers are some of the most harmless Unknown that exist. They are almost as common as Observers, and are mostly laborers.

Designers

the dreamers; the arms of the universe

Designers primarily work in basic code and design structure. They format new updates and design what is new. They must use the base structure created by Creators to make something new.

As rare as creators, but not as powerful.

Creators

the enactors; the will of the universe

These powerful Unknown could technically be in their own category outside of Terraformers and Designers, as they work with extremely rare "modded" worlds, that often deviate from the direct will of the Code. This was only allowed, as it was express permission from the Code that allowed them to do this.

Creators often see themselves as the true higher authority, as they are the ones who create and interpret from the Code's will. However, few of them actually have the stomach to go up against an Operator.

Operators

the deities; the mouthpiece of the universe

Operators are the most powerful and most dangerous form of Unknown. They exist to interpret and spread the will of the Universe -- the Code.

Operators act as a bureaucracy for the rest of the Unknown. They control the flow of everything, information, design, code, and what is and isn't allowed. Because of their high standing Operators are notoriously vain and violent.

Though it is a commonly held belief that Operators are the only people who are able to intepret and hear the Code, certain scholars argue about the validity of that statement.

The Player

Players are those who live within the worlds. they inhabit everything, and make up the blood of the universe.

A Player is any sentient closed code with an “Entity-Name”. An entity name is a simple, one word seal that is believed to be what truly gives a player life.

Players whose Code has almost entirely been destroyed or reformed, but retain their entity name, are able to exists as relatively the same being. However, Players who have had their entity name scrubbed from their Code, (something extremely hard to do in the first place), are shells of their former selves, even if only their entity name has removed, but everything else remains.

Entity names tend to be formated as Player_["Name"]
